El cocodrilo blanco tiene la mala suerte de ofrecer algunas cosas que no existen, como amor y muerte. Desde ese momento, el cocodrilo blanco se convierte en un símbolo de inmortalidad. Una imagen vale más que mil palabras: Whenever the white crocodile offers immortality to Elisa, she declines because she cannot imagine life without death. In Naila and the White Crocodile, life and death are presented as opposing each other, as though one could not exist without the other. In this struggle a tragic fate awaits a person who is unable to fulfill her destiny. The struggle with destiny can be seen in Amilcar Betancourt's novel "Yo soy la historia" (I am history), where the author presents a character with multiple personalities. In this case, the author suggests that one of his characters struggles with different destinies because she has been possessed by an ancestor's spirit. In this story, there are three different ways to view things from: from above - from within - from outside. It is like an inner journey where you can see how life can be interpreted in different ways. "Inside" Inside the personality of the protagonist, there are 3 figures which represent three different destinies. The first one is the heroine of the story called "Elisa", she represents the destiny of love, while the second one called "Naila" represents her own destiny (love or death). The third figure which represents destiny in this story is her ancestor's. Naila's ancestor possessed Elisa when she was still a little girl just before she met her husband. Her sister gave birth to this ancestor but when it grew up, it got jealous of Elissa because she was getting all the attention from their mother. After she died, her soul entered Elisa and dominated all her personalities and represented her destiny. This destiny got the heroine to choose between "love" or "death", when in reality she should have chosen between life or love. "Outside" The outside perspective of the story is when you see this story from Elisa's husband's perspective. He is happily married with Elisa until one day, he sees her changing into Naila in front of his eyes, then he is seeing how all these personalities are fighting for control in Elisa's body. He also sees how each personality representing each different destiny in this story are in a fight with each other for control in Elisa's body. "Above" We could also interpret this story from God's perspective. From above, we could see how Elisa was struggling with herself because she was possessed by Naila's ancestor who wanted to kill her husband. If she loved herself, she would have to make a choice between love and death. The short story "Naila y el cocodrilo blanco" has been adapted into a radio play for the program "Para ninos que leen bien". The radio play was written in Spanish by Gabriela Aguilar-Montes and directed by Rogelio Martinez-Pomales. The characters were voiced by students of the Fletcher Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas. cfa1e77820
